Guitar for Kids
"Is my child old enough for guitar?"
Lots of kids of every age enroll in SDML classes, have a wonderful time and learn a new and exciting skill on an instrument that is a terrific entry point to a much larger musical world.
If children start too early and have a negative experience early on, however, that can make a lasting impression that may sour their feelings toward the instrument. That's why it's so important to never push a child into guitar lessons before he or she is ready.
Generally, by the age of 8 most children have developed the cognitive abilities and fine motor skills required to make guitar classes an enjoyable experience. Sometimes this can happen in kids as young as 4 or 5. The most important thing is to make sure that they have a positive first interaction with learning guitar.
Every child is unique, so for those under the age of 8, we like to meet with you and your child to do a quick series of basic tests and questions to see if it's a good time to start. Send us a message today and let us know that you're interested in setting up a free child-readiness evaluation!
