Recitals.jpg

When you think of a music recital, you probably envision lots of formally dressed people in a hushed, dark concert hall, with a line of nervous students waiting in the wings for their spot in the program to come up. That's the traditional approach to recitals, and it's perfectly suited for many types of pro forma instruction.

Guitar, however, is a very social instrument, so our recitals take place in a very social setting, with a relaxed, coffeehouse open mic sort of format. These students work just as hard or harder than any others and give excellent performances at all skill and experience levels - and performances are a critical part of the learning process.

But we just think everyone should be having fun at these things, and we try to hold them in public places where you can have a drink and maybe some food in a laid-back environment with an informal feel. Most SDML chapters have about 5 recitals per year, giving everyone the chance to be one of hundreds of performances!

Have some fun and sift through our pile of photos below. Find yourself or someone you know!
